Bestway Electric Motor Service Co., Inc. has rewound and rebuilt AC and DC motors on South Campbell Avenue in Tucson since 1978, under president Ray Kothe. It is an industrial electric motor and pump repair shop, not a residential or commercial electrician: nothing here is a panel upgrade, an outlet install or a house rewire. What comes through the door is a motor off a line, and what goes back out has been proved on a stand, not guessed at from a nameplate photograph.

Bestway opened for business in 1978, rewinding and rebuilding motors at 728 S Campbell Ave. Ray Kothe is president, and he is named personally by customers often enough that it is not a coincidence: the man who quotes the job is frequently the one who does it. In October 2015 the shop put a 10,000 square foot expansion into production, built west of the previous building, sized around a fifteen tonne crane and the bake and burnout ovens that go with it.

Who sends a motor here
Most of the work comes from mining, manufacturing, municipalities, utilities, commercial services and military installations across Arizona, single source for whatever AC or DC motor is on the pallet. The rest is a walk-in with one motor and nowhere else to take it: a single phase 7.5 hp GE motor that Joe Durham thought was unfixable, or the Baldor buffer Kevin Collins brought in expecting a small job and got a full tour of the shop out of it.
Bring the nameplate and what the motor was doing when it quit, and start the estimate the same way either kind of customer does.
